Dairy Goats
From the 1870’s the Anglo Nubian has been a
dual-purpose dairy and meat goat. We are proud to say that we have been
breeding this curious breed since 1998. All our Nubians can proudly clam the
high butterfat and protein content in their milk and their superior flesh compared
to the Swiss breeds. All having a great capacity for adaptation to hot
climates, they suit the heat of the central Queensland sun quite well.
When I first started with this wonderful breed, the first few does was just a
hobby as I love their roman faces and long ears (cause it reminded me of a
cross between a horse and a Braham). After our first interaction with
exporting, we realized that was an opportunity to expand our hobby in a
business. We are now proud to say that we are one of the largest Anglo Nubian
dairy stud in Australia. Reaching our goal of exporting our stock overseas, in
larger numbers each year, also expanding and improving the excellence of
the Anglo Nubian available for export in Australia.
Both my daughters have their own dairy breed. My oldest daughter (Leisa)
has 'Togotoga' Toggenburgs, while my youngest daughter has 'Maccabees' British
Alpines. Both the girls started off with their own breed in 2008 and have had a
quite the fun taking them to a couple shows and having a successful breeding
season for their first one.
Although we only showed our dairy goats for three years (2006-2008) we
enjoyed it greatly and learnt much more about the breeds. In 2007 'Tranabby
Lucy' (picture in the middle below) tied at the Brisbane Royal for Best First
Lactation, which was a real achievement for our stud. Throughout it was a very
successful few years in the show ring with the goats :)
